Yuma, Arizona – Former Arizona State Senator Ms. Amanda Aguirre, current President and CEO of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc., was presented with the 2016 Elsie Eyer Commitment to Underserved People (CUP) Award, by the Arizona Public Health Association.

The award was received by Ms. Aguirre during the AZPHA 2016 Fall Conference: Healthy. Safe. Thriving. “Planning for a 21st Century State of Wellness”, held on September 30th, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona.

According to the AZPHA, the Elsie Eyer CUP Award creates an opportunity to recognize persons or entities that have demonstrated a sustained effort in assuring the delivery of health services to underserved populations in Arizona.

The Commitment to Underserved People Award was established in 1999 through a generous endowment given by the Health Systems Agency of Southeastern Arizona (HSASA). HSASA was the designated health planning agency for Southeastern Arizona from 1973 until it’s closing in 1987.

The CUP award became ‘The Elsie Eyer CUP Award’ in 2015 in honor of Elsie Eyer, a long time Arizona public health leader in recognition of her years dedicate to the Association, public health and access to care throughout Arizona.

This award comes at the same time Ms. Aguirre is celebrating her 25th anniversary as President and CEO of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc., a non-profit organization based in South Yuma County, Arizona, an underserved community.

RCBH operates the San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc. which is located in San Luis and Somerton, as well as the College of Health Careers located in Yuma, and the Somerton Main Street Café, in Somerton.
