Yuma, AZ – (December 11, 2020).-  The Binational Health and Environment Council of Yuma County, Arizona and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora (COBINAS) sponsored by the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. (RCBH) proudly announces the selection of the 13 drawings that will illustrate the 2021 Binational Clean Air Calendar.

According to former State of Arizona Senator and current President and CEO of RCBH, Ms. Amanda Aguirre, the main purpose of the drawing contest which is create awareness on the importance of environment inviting the students to make a drawing with the emphasis of the air quality and the importance of recycling habits really was met.

“This year we made the process a little bit different due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and students should have sent the drawings by e-mail,” said Ms. Aguirre, “we would like to recognize teachers and students who did their best and participated.”

The following are the names of the winners:

• Cover: Sandra Scarleth Pérez Zazueta, age 14, Colegio Bilingue San Luis Secundaria, from San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• January: Alena Saldana, age 14, Cibola High School, from Yuma, Arizona
• February: Nicole Urias Núñez, age 13, Colegio Bilingue San Luis Secundaria, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• March: Daniela Fernandez Romero, age 17, Kofa High School, Yuma, Arizona
• April: Luis Enrique Galvez Flores, age 13, Secundaria Técnica Número 75, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• May: Carlos Corona, age 13, Southwest Jr. High School, San Luis, Arizona
• June: Edmir Loaiza Guzmán, age 7, Colegio Bilingue San Luis Primaria, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• July: Monserrat Cordero Jáuregui, age 13, Southwest Jr. High School, San Luis, Arizona
• August: Diana Corina Navarro Bojórquez, age 9, Escuela Primaria Esther Quijada Domínguez, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• September: Daniel Eduardo Meza, age 14, Southwest Jr. High School, San Luis, Arizona
• October: Alessandra Carolina Valdez Oros, age 13, Colegio Bilingue San Luis, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora
• November: Niltza Reyes, age 13, Southwest Jr. High School, San Luis, Arizona
• December: Lucía López Garnica, age 8, Colegio Bilingue San Luis, San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora

The 2021 Binational Clean Air Calendar will be dedicated by Christian Castro García, age 13, theater student with Instituto Kino de San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora who highlights the importance of keeping fresh and clean air for outdoor activities.

Special recognitions to those who illustrate the calendar will be presented in 2021. All the students who participated at the contest will receive a certificate of participation. Free distribution of the calendar will be done briefly.
