Somerton, Arizona.- (May 1, 2024) The RCBH’s College of Health Careers will graduate its first LPN class this Friday, May 3rd 2024. The class, a fast track program will advance 16 students as Licensed Practical Nurses. A LPN is involved directly in patient care and can be employed in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and more. LPN’s work under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses (RN’s) and Doctors.
Yuma County has had a shortage of medical professionals with some extended care facilities offering as much as a $10,000 sign on bonus for LPN’s.
The Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. and its subsidiary, the College of Health Careers have been working since the CHC’s incorporation in 2007 to bridge the gap in rural areas and “Grow Our Own” medical professionals that will stay and practice in rural settings. Serving the counties of Yuma, La Paz and Mohave, the CHC also offers online courses that have benefited both Rural and Urban Communities Statewide.
Former State Senator Amanda Aguirre, who established the CHC in 2007 and has been the President & CEO of RCBH since 1992 says “We are very pleased to be able to offer through our College the LPN course for the first time in Yuma County. We are looking forward to start two more classes this year and very soon will also be offering classes to become a Registered Nurse.”
Aguirre also mentioned the importance of quality trained staff in rural communities and how crucial access to healthcare is for communities. “RCBH is committed to the communities we serve and look forward to staffing our soon to be built hospital with many of the people we have trained.” RCBH is set to break ground on their hospital in the Fall of this year.
RCBH & CHC cordially invite all media to the first LPN graduation that will take place this Friday, May 3rd at 10:00 AM in San Luis, Arizona at RCBH’s San Luis Medical Mall in the 2nd floor conference center.
