Yuma, AZ.- The Arizona State University (ASU) Morrison Institute of Public Policy in collaboration with the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. will present a public event in Yuma with the purpose of increasing citizen participation in the democratic process.
The event, which will showcase three distinct models for voter education and engagement, will be held on Thursday June 11th, 2015 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Meeting Room B of Main Yuma Library.
The public will learn about the Citizens’ Initiative Review (CIR), a process for improving voter understanding of ballot initiatives.
The presentation will include:
- an overview of the CIR model,
- results of an evaluation of the pilot Arizona CIR,
- plans for a statewide CIR in 2016,
- And a chance to provide public’s input.
The attendees will also learn about Arizona Voices, a new web platform that enables registered Arizona voters to track, rate and comment on bills as they move through the state legislative process. Visit AZVoices.gov to rate bills and share ideas.
Additionally, attendees will learn how the Citizens Clean Elections Commission promotes participation in elections and supports informed voting in a world of sound bites and negative advertisements. Visit azcleanelections.gov for more information.
There is no cost but people interested in attending the Forum need to RSVP by sending an e-mail to morrison.institute@asu.edu with the subject: June 11 CIR Forum.
The Main Yuma Library is located at 2951 S. 21st Dr., in Yuma.
