Yuma, Arizona.- A group of 27 Middle School students from all over Yuma County will have a real view of how a pharmacy can impact their lives, thanks to the efforts of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. /Western Area Health Education Center, and the University Of Arizona College of Pharmacy (U of A COP) will host their Annual Pharmacy Camp.
On Wednesday June 15, 2016, the 27 participants including 6 counselors and 2 members of U of A staff will engage in a one day experience of workshops, laboratory exercises, discussions, and activities.
According to Amanda Aguirre, President and CEO of the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc., the Pharmacy Camp is a community outreach program conducted by the University Of Arizona College Of Pharmacy every summer since 1997.
The program will start in San Luis, Arizona at 9:00 AM with a tour of the San Luis Walk-In Clinic, Inc., and Santa Teresa Pharmacy, guided by Pharmacist Paul Shah who will conduct a presentation on pharmacy medication use, safe storage, and medication disposal.
The group will depart to Somerton at 10:30 AM to be welcomed by Ms. Aguirre at the RCBH Headquarters.
At 10:45 AM Mr. Javier Morales, Director of Public Health Initiatives with RCBH, will do a presentation on Healthy Rhythms, followed by Ms. Leslie Short, Program Development Director with RCBH, who will do a presentation on Chronic Disease Self-Management Program.
RCBH/WAHEC will sponsor lunch for the attendees.
Events are guided by camp counselors who are pre-health professional students or students attending COP. Counselors are supervised by faculty and pharmacist preceptors.
The media is welcome to attend, and talk with students and instructors about this experience.
