Yuma, Arizona. – An inspirational time was shared by 22 Yuma County man, women, and their children as they were honored and participated as models at the 14th Annual Fashion Show presented by the Yuma County Breast & Cervical Cancer Coalition (YCBCCC), sponsored by the Regional Center for Border Health, Inc. and Dillard’s departmental store.

The event was held on Sunday April 19th, at the Yuma Civic Center, with the sponsorship also from Yuma Oncology, Alexander Toyota, 1st Bank Yuma, Burgers & Beer, Yuma Gastro LLLP, Fisher Automotive, and Fester & Chapman.

According to Dillard’s Manager Martha Guillen who was assisted by Sonia Galvan, the departmental store used forty-four different ensembles that made each Cancer Survivor who were the models feel extremely special. Their battles against breast, colon, pancreatic, testicular, and cervical cancers have been hard for them, however as they explained at a Bio shown as they walked in the runway, with the support of their families and most of all assisted by the RCBH programs they are definitely better.

Genoveva Tovar, Sofia Tovar, Coqui Pixley, Sylvia Plaisted, Isaac Torres, Jose Luis Lopez, Kamila Lopez, Luisgael Lopez, Andrea Felix, Beatrice Alegria, Ana María Lara, Emilia Garcia, Carmen Solano, Selah Solano, Tabatha Heflin, Maria Padilla, Vivian Rodríguez, Paulita T. Leader, Rosa Madrid, Mary Keffer, Alicia Aguiñiga and Maribel Caballero participated as models in this year’s event.

The RCBH and its Yuma County Breast & Cervical Cancer Coalition Foundation decrease the likelihood of mortality for cancer survivors in Yuma County, by raising money through the fashion show; through event sponsorships and ticket sales.

Dozens of Yuma County community members along with Senator Lynn Pancrazi, State Representative Charlene Fernandez, County Supervisor Russ Clark and model families and friends attended this year Fashion Show.

Amanda Aguirre, President and CEO of the RCBH, Inc. stated that “every year since 2000 the agency has been committed to support this fundraising event for cancer survivor and their families to be their moment to glow and shine, as the funds raised from ticket sales are channelized to assist individuals impacted by breast and cervical cancer with their medical expenses”.

Ms. Aguirre also added “it’s a family affair and we are glad to be able to assist the families during hard times”.

To assist in that road to recovery and health, the YCBCCC Uncovered Services fund pays for many different needs; those could include medical procedures, exams, or blood tests, pre-operational procedures that are required prior to a program-paid cancer biopsy yet unaffordable to the patient. The fund has paid for hotels in Tucson or Phoenix, extra help with house rent or utilities, or gas cards to enable a small amount of ease in the cost of transportation to chemotherapy or radiation appointments.
